Background of the Study: Wound healing is a complex biological process influenced by various factors, including the type of surgery, the patient’s overall health, and the quality of postoperative care (Sule et al., 2023). Surgical wounds are vulnerable to infection, delayed healing, and complications if not managed properly. Nurses play a critical role in promoting wound healing by ensuring proper wound care, infection prevention, and patient education (Yusuf & Murtala, 2024). In Zamfara State, the challenge of effectively managing surgical wounds is compounded by inadequate healthcare infrastructure, insufficient nurse training, and limited access to essential wound care supplies (Aliyu et al., 2023). These challenges may negatively impact the quality of care provided to surgical patients, contributing to prolonged healing times, infection, and increased healthcare costs (Ahmed et al., 2024).
Nurses are at the forefront of patient care, from the initial wound dressing to monitoring for signs of infection and ensuring that patients follow proper aftercare instructions. Studies have shown that proper wound care techniques, including maintaining a sterile environment, regular dressing changes, and promoting patient adherence to care instructions, significantly improve wound healing outcomes (Salihu & Umar, 2023). This study seeks to evaluate the role of nurses in improving wound healing among surgical patients in Zamfara State healthcare facilities, highlighting how their interventions impact healing rates and patient outcomes.
Statement of the Problem: In Zamfara State, surgical patients often experience delayed wound healing, increased risk of infection, and other complications. The quality of wound care provided by nurses is a key determinant in the healing process, yet there is limited research on the effectiveness of nursing interventions in this regard within the region. This study aims to assess how nurses' involvement in wound care affects the healing process among surgical patients in Zamfara State healthcare facilities.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on surgical patients in healthcare facilities in Zamfara State and the role of nurses in wound care. The study will involve interviews with nurses and patient assessments to evaluate wound healing progress. Limitations may include the difficulty in standardizing wound care practices across different hospitals and the potential for variation in patient health conditions.
